That’s right folks, it’s that wonderful time of year again where vegheads from all over the world dig out their whisks and mixing bowls, get to the nearest kitchen and bake their little (or should I say, BIG) hearts out!
I adore this time of year, for one I get to selfishly bake to my hearts desire, secondly all the hard work put into the event helps out a wonderful charity and thirdly, there’s nothing better then watching the enthusiasm multiply and eyes grow wide as people show up to the sale and see the amazing spread of delicious goodies everyone has contributed. It fills my heart with happiness to see vegans come to our event and have their expressions turn to bewilderment as the realization sets in that, yes, they can eat EVERYTHING there!
This year, we welcome all the lovely residents of Calgary and Okotoks to get their fill of vegan baking on April 20th, 2013 at the Community Natural Foods Chinook station market from 10am until 3pm and on April 27th at Cozy Cottage Interiors from 10am until 3pm. Both bake sales are in support of The Rescue and Sanctuary for Threatened Animals (R.A.S.T.A.), a non-profit organization and sanctuary devoted to animal rescue and protection through public education and advocacy.
This is the fourth year in a row, me and my friend Tanya have planned the bake sales (along with help from others!) and every year the sales seem to get a little bigger, a little more publicity and little more love from all the locals. We’re really hoping that the trend continues this year and will continue for years to come 🙂
Not only will we be baking all kinds of sweet and savory tasties to sell, but we will also be holding a fun raffle to raise additional funds. We’ve had some pretty rad companies generously donate all kinds of wonderful things, from an assortment of gift cards, to incredible bath products, cookbooks, candles and more! Raffle tickets will be sold at the sale, $2 each or 6 for $10. make sure you check the facebook event page for updates on the items available to win!
We’ll also have some free fresh hot coffee ready for your consumption. You need something to wash down all those treats, amiright? So make sure you get there early to snag yourself a cup and get first dibs on all the goodies up for grabs! I haven’t fully decided on everything I’m making just yet, but there will be a reappearance of pizza buns, sausage rolls and plenty o cupcakes. Have any ideas on what I can make or what you’d like to see there? Feel free to give me a shout, I’m always looking for ideas!
